Transformers

General Purpose

Sola/Hevi-Duty low voltage general purpose (LVGP) transformers are the industry's workhorses. They are manufactured to meet applicable industry standards, are listed in accordance with UL506 and UL1561 specifications and are classified as isolation transformers. Typical applications include:

Hospitals, Office Buildings, Industrial Plants, Schools and Commercial Buildings

General-purpose transformers can be located close to the load. No vaults are required for installation and no long, expensive feeder lines are needed. Common applications include inductive and resistive loads such as motors, lighting and heating.

Low Temperature Rise

Low temperature rise transformers are designed for any critical application requiring extra overload capability, lower than average total losses and/or cooler operating temperatures. Sola/Hevi-Duty's low temperature rise transformers feature a 220C insulation system and temperature rise of only 80C or 115C under full nameplate load. The result is 13-21% lower operating losses than conventional 150C rise units.

Energy Star Compliant

Certain states within the USA have adopted Energy Star standards to NEMA TP-1 levels and testing. Sola/Hevi-Duty makes it easy to meet these standards with its E versions of Low Voltage General Purpose (LVGP) transformers. These transformers meet strict efficiency standards as proposed by NEMA TP-1, yet are the same compact size as the basic Sola/Hevi-Duty LVGP unit so floor space is not comprised. The efficiencies of these transformers are optimized to meet NEMA TP-1 limits for the load losses calculated at 35% of the name plate rating. This 35% represents an industry average load of most LVGP transformers.

K-Factor

K-Factor transformers are designed to reduce the heating effects of harmonic currents created by loads such as electric discharge lighting, telecommunications equipment, induction heating equipment and mainframe computer loads. The K-Factor rating is an index of the transformer's ability to withstand harmonic content while operating within the temperature limits of its insulating system. Sola/Hevi-Duty K-Factor transformers have UL ratings of K-4, K-13 and K-20.

Hazardous Location

Sola/Hevi-Duty's encapsulated transformers are suited for harsh industrial use as well as for Hazardous Location Class 1, Division 2, Group A-D. Encapsulation and rugged NEMA 3R enclosures protect the transformer from dust, moisture, and provide extra shock and vibration resistance. Sola/Hevi-Duty UL listed transformers fully comply with the latest addition of the National Electrical Code for Class 1, Division 2, Group A-D locations when installed in compliance with NEC 501-2(b).

Buck-Boost

Buck-Boost transformers are small, single phase, dry type distribution transformers designed and shipped as insulating/isolating transformers. They have a dual voltage primary and a dual voltage secondary. Primary voltages are 120, 240 or 480. Secondary voltages are 12 x 24, 16 x 32 or 24 x 48. Nameplate sizes range from 50 VA to 10 KVA. A big advantage of buck-boost transformers is their ability to be connected for a wide range of voltage combinations. The most common use is to buck (lower) or boost (raise) the supply voltage a small amount, usually 5 to 27%. Buck-Boost transformers are in compliance with NEC Article 210-9, Exception 1 when field connected as an autotransformer.

Drive Isolation

Sola/Hevi-Duty drive isolation transformers are specifically designed to meet and exceed the rigorous requirements of mechanical stresses, voltage demands and harmonics associated with SCR applications.

Industrial Control

Sola/Hevi-Duty offers a broad range of industrial control solutions to the most demanding industrial applications. These products exceed NEMA ratings for inrush and regulation to ensure control systems are powered correctly. Electromagnetic control components demand inrush currents up to 10 times the transformer's nominal rating. While this inrush is occurring, the output side of the transformer must not fall below 85% of nominal as specified by NEMA St. 1, Part 4. Using a transformer that does not meet these ratings may cause erroneous shutdowns of downstream systems. To meet your complete control needs, Sola/Hevi-Duty offers four series of control transformers:

SBE Series, SMT Series, International Series, and the HSZ Series.

All of these products exceed the NEMA standards.
